Years at MSU: 2

As a veterinary neurology and neurosurgery resident at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University, Alexandra Danel performs surgeries, manages complex medical cases, and engages in research to advance the understanding of neurology and neurosurgery.

“The complexity of the brain and nervous system is fascinating and specializing in this field allows me to delve deeper into understanding and treating neurological conditions,” said Danel. “The intellectual challenges, constant advancements, and the ability to make a significant impact on an animal's life also contributed to why I chose this career path,” continued Danel.

She said one of the most memorable experiences in her career was performing her first spinal fracture surgery as the primary surgeon.

It was a significant milestone for me and a moment that truly highlighted my growth and expertise in the field of neurology and neurosurgery,” said Danel. “One aspect of my job that brings me the greatest satisfaction is witnessing the tangible results of my surgical interventions. Seeing dogs who were once paralyzed walk out of the hospital, tails wagging with newfound mobility, is incredibly rewarding,” said Danel.

In addition to the hands-on care, Danel provides guidance and education to pet owners, helping them make informed decisions. She is also passionate about teaching and mentoring students to foster their growth and development in the field.
